State Health Improvement Plan (SHIP)
To improve health and boost the performance of Florida’s public health system, state leaders brought together a diverse coalition from various organizations with the goal of creating a comprehensive and practical roadmap for meaningful action. This collaborative effort was designed to ensure inclusivity and shared ownership of a strategic plan.
The process included a thorough assessment of the state’s health, identifying priority areas, and setting clear goals to enhance Floridians’ well-being. This culminated in the development of Florida’s State Health Improvement Plan (SHIP), a five-year blueprint for targeted, collective action. The Department of Elder Affairs (DOEA) collaborates with other statewide partners, including the Department of Health (DOH), to align aging initiatives across Florida.
Priority Area Workgroups (PAW)
The 2022-2026 SHIP sets priorities in seven key areas: Alzheimer’s Disease and Related Dementias, Chronic Diseases and Conditions, Injury, Safety and Violence, Maternal and Child Health, Mental Well-being and Substance Abuse Prevention, Social and Economic Conditions Impacting Health, and Transmissible and Emerging Diseases.
2022-2026 Alzheimer’s Disease and Related Dementias Priority Area Workgroup (ADRD PAW)
The Department of Elder Affairs, in partnership with the Alzheimer’s Association, plays a key role in advancing the strategic priorities within the ADRD PAW through a comprehensive and multifaceted approach. Over the next five years, we aim to achieve the following goals:
Goal 1: Strengthen the Capacity to Address ADRD
We are committed to enhancing our response to the challenges posed by ADRD. Our strategy includes increasing research funding, improving diagnostic tools, and expanding access to care and support services. By focusing on these areas, we aim to achieve better outcomes for individuals affected by these conditions.
Goal 2: Ensure a Competent ADRD Workforce
A well-trained and knowledgeable workforce is crucial for effectively managing ADRD. We will focus on providing comprehensive training and education programs for healthcare professionals, caregivers, and support staff. This will equip them with the skills and knowledge needed to deliver high-quality care and support to those living with these conditions.
Goal 3: Enhance Support for Those Living with ADRD and Their Caregivers
Supporting individuals with ADRD, as well as their caregivers, is a top priority. We will work to enhance support services such as respite care, counseling, and educational resources. By strengthening these support systems, we aim to improve the quality of life for both individuals with these conditions and their caregivers.
